The "Vortex"-- July 3 2008

Homer Elks Lodge
I ate here
I ate here
I ate here for a long time!
I ate here as well!
Yes I ate here, just a little more!
The boats which supply what I have eaten!
My side box from Alaska
My other side box.
Float planes are very plentiful!

In the year 2000 when I hiked the Appalachian trail we deemed towns that were difficult to escape from "Vortex's". Homer Alaska is just such a town! It just sucks you in and it is difficult to leave.

I literally spent the day today, eating as much crab, and crab related food as I could find. If those of you back home find the cost of crab has gone up, I sincerely apologize. For the weight I have lost on this trip, it definitely was made up today. Not to sound so overly "Gluttonous", 3-lbs, straight off the hoof, King Crab, 1 pound Dungeness crab, 2 bowls, of salmon chowder and to top the evening off, a sampler dinner of scallops, halibut and shrimp. I went back to my room took a nice nap, then went down to the "Elks" Lodge and had a few Beers.

Very nice folks at the "Elks" lodge! After my "Binge" eating today, I talked to my Inn keeper and decided to stay another night, as I figured I would be tired after my fishing trip, then after being at the "Elks" Lodge, I found out that their big party of the year was on the 4th of July, and so I decided to call the hotel to see if I could stay another night. Well before I made the phone call, the owner of the hotel, stopped into the lodge, as he is a member, and I got a free night! What luck!

So I am in the "Vortex" of Homer Ak!!! In the morning I am heading off for my day of Halibut fishing, and the next day to the big Party at the Elks! What more could a guy ask for?

Life is good!!!

On this post I had added some pics just to give you a little flavor of the area, while they are a little touristy, which is not the norm for me, it just seems to fit!

A couple of shout outs on the blog which seem appropriate at the time. First of all to my friend "Lyle" your good luck charm has been great, especially in "Bear" country, and to Kim, your comments are in no way "heavy" and it is nice to hear from and make contact with an old high school friend. I am keeping an eye out for a Whale Pic for you.

To everyone else out there, you know how much I love the 4th of July, and while I am miles away, the thought of all of you is in my heart, which is very close and very dear.

Happy 4th.

Love,

Tim
