The last couple of days down the Oregon coast on hwy 101 have been out of this world. I have been on this highway in the past, but had forgotten how beautiful it is. The views are just stunning!
The area is more populated than Alaska and Canada, but the change of pace has been nice. Most of the traffic is tourist traffic, but it is mid week and has been fairly light. There are little towns every 10 miles or so, then every 30-40 miles there will be a large town. I have been stopping on the wharfs eating all of the locale fare. Dungess crab are big at this time of year, as are clams and sturgeon, the sturgeon fish and chips are out of this world!!!
If I were in a vehical of some type I would by some crab traps, you can buy them for around $35.00 and fish right off the dock for crab, I saw some young guys today haul in 25 crabs in an hour out of just two crab pots.
Talking to the locals the tourism is down some what during the mid-week the lodging prices are very low, the last two nights I have gotten rooms for less than $50.00, unfortunately all of the these hotels are owned by Indians, not American Indians, and not to sound too bigoted, they run really cheap operations, both places I stayed at claimed to have WI-FI but in both cases the service was poor and slow, I lost blogs twice about halfway through and it was not worth the hassle. At a later date I will blog about, hotels, how to get the best deal and what to look for. It would be different if I were staying in $100 plus dollar rooms, but it is a trick to find a good room for around $50.00!
My blog provider does not allow me to import text, so I cannot write a blog and upload it later. Generally speaking the time to write a blog and add pics takes about an hour per entry, so without a good connection it can be difficult.
Friday I will be entering Northern California, I look forward to spending some time in the great redwood forest, as well as Napa Valley, I also hope to get over to Yosemite and do some hiking. But more importantly I will be hunting for the elusive "Big Foot".
The coast is great, and I hope you all are enjoying the ride!
