Well I was right about the El-D-Rado motel, about 1:00 am things started to pick up, I had taken an ambien as I have not been sleeping well, but things were going on next door! It wasn't too loud, but the couple of times I did wake up during the night, some moaning and groaning was going on.
This morning as I was loading up my bike around 9:00 am a young attractive girl in a robe came out of her door, smoking a cigarette and drinking a cup of coffee. She apologized if I was bothered by the noise last night. I asked her if she had a good night and she smiled and said "Yes", she went on to explain that her and her sister are strippers at a nearby bar and make extra money after hours with some of their customers. I said "cool" she asked me about my bike and where I was going, she seemed genuinely interested, she was well spoken and very nice. We sat out front and talked for about 15 Min's. I gave her an orange that I had in my tank bag. As I took off, she yelled "have a good trip" and flashed me her "Boobs" What a fine way to start the day!
I did not think the scenery could get any better, but I was wrong. Aside from the nice view this morning, I did not think the views would be better than from yesterday. I was wrong again.
I headed the back way out of Delta CO, I rode old forest service roads across the Uncompahgre National Forest. It was some hard core riding! There were a few times, that I wondered if I was making a mistake. In the end it all worked out fine. What is a grand adventure without risk! I rode 90 miles in 4 hours, some times due to the terrain, it was 10-15 mph, and a couple of good hill climbs. The effort was worth it. I ended up in the high grazing meadows. I saw many cows and they had the right of way on the roads. If you have every watched old westerns and the cowboys talked about rounding up the cows in the high mountain grazing lands, that were I was today. I made my highest mountain pass on dirt roads today at over 9000'. The scenery was out of this world! I finally hit pavement at Nucla CO, then crossed into Utah and made it to Moab at about 3:30, that is where I am at now.
Today was the epitome of the reason why I am riding the motorcycle that I am, sure I could be riding a Goldwing or BMW, but I promise you that the those bikes would never have been able access the back country like I did today. Granted I cannot cruise down the highway at 100mph, but at 60mph I see more things.
I am staying here until Monday, I have a special set of tires waiting for me at a local dealer, I may have them shipped ahead as my rear tire still has good tread on it. I found a nice hotel, and treated myself to the suite rather than a regular room, the price difference was only $15.00 so I figured after last night it was worth the price.
When I first started out on this trip I had planned to spend the first week in hotels until the rhythm of the road set in, from here on out, I will be camping more often, so my updates will not be as regular.
While I am here in Moab, I am going to write a couple of there posts to answer some questions that have been e-mailed to me, and to give you greater insights on the crazy mind of.
"Vienna"
